About Me
I'm an outdoor industry professional, writer, and storyteller based in Portland, Oregon. I recently completed a Master's in Environmental and Natural Resource Journalism at the University of Montana that focused on stories about water in the West.
My education background is in environmental studies and outdoor education. I have spent my entire career working in the outdoor industry in variety of roles. I spent six years as an instructor and guide taking young people on rafting and backpacking trips all over the West. I have worked in mountain bike production, in outdoor gear retail and briefly as a copywriter. I have a diverse skill set and spending time outside and writing remain through-lines as I continue to create the right flair that fits for my life.

Strolling down to the shorefront of Flathead Lake was Dr. Mark Lorang, where moments before a young cinnamon colored black bear had stood. The wildlife encounter prompted Lorang to launch into a story about a wolf he recently saw up at his cherry orchard.

Finding Meaning: An Intern Experience - FLBS
“I just saw the bear,” Randy Flores said as he walked up from the Flathead Lake Biological Station shoreline. Flores saw one of at least four black bears who look quite comfortable living on Bio Station grounds this summer.
Black bears are common in the Flathead, but the small number of people at the Bio Station this year may have made them bolder than usual. This is just one element that is contributing to a unique summer intern experience at FLBS.
